Here's a sneak peak of "WHERE ELITES WILL MEET" writen by UVic's John Threlfall, Faculty of Fine Arts Communications.
Veteran sports writer Tom Hawthorn has covered all levels of athletes over the years. Currently the 2014 Southam Lecturer of UVic's Department of Writing, we asked Hawthorn what he thought about UVic's CARSA plans. "When it comes to training facilities," he says, "you're going to attract people who want to succeed in athletics - that will definitely be weighed in their decision of where they're going to do their studies."
"The Island is naturally blessed when it comes to ordinary recreational pursuits." Hawthorn explains, "The simple fact that this will exist at UVic will have more people in the community thinking about sports and their own fitness." Hawthorn also stresses the importance of how CARSA will enhance UVic's reputation. "Elite athletes will be doing their training during regular times, so people will be inspired by world-class athletes at the next machine," he says. "People will be able to better understand what that kind of dedication means." - (Full article is to be released Monday March 10, 2014).
The momentum is building; the vision is becoming a reality! Check out what CARSA will inspire for everyone. Visit www.uvic.ca/carsa.
