Conversation with Bev Sellars
All alumni and friends are invited to join past UVic Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Bev Sellars (BA ’97), author of the award-winning book They Called Me Number One: Secrets and Survival at an Indian Residential School, as she leads participants in a thought-provoking discussion.
Bev will explore the cultural differences in raising children in Indigenous and European cultures and reflect on how those contrasting practices added to the trauma of children in the Canadian residential school system. As a residential school survivor, Bev will examine this subject from her own experiences and will address the impacts it had on raising her own children.
