The UVic School of Music is pleased to invite you and a guest to a special concert that will take you on an auditory journey of reimagined music and sound.

Hopeful Monster is a fresh venture by UVic Distinguished Alumna, Eve Egoyan (BMus ’85), and Mauricio Pauly — a recording and performance project that breathes new life into the piano's sonic and expressive capabilities. The duo spent four days in the early summer of 2022 recording in the Wong Theatre at Simon Fraser University in downtown Vancouver. This concert in Victoria is the first of their Hopeful Monster album launch tour.

Eve will perform on grand piano augmented with electronics while Mauricio’s sounds come from live sampling and electronic processing while playing a variety of percussion instruments, lapsteel and chromaharp (a type of zither). When Mauricio's instruments respond to Eve's piano artistry, the two artist-creators delve into the realm between impromptu performance and imaginative design.
