Dr. Nancy South was a member of the Economics Department and Executive Director at the BC Ministry of Health. Nancy was bright and incredibly knowledgeable. She shared her passion and energy for economics and for economic history over a 25 year teaching career; and, as she transitioned to her second career in the public service, she put that same passion, energy and knowledge into helping all British Columbians. During her public service career, Nancy continued to lecture at UVic, hired countless UVic Economics Graduates, and demonstrated a strong advocacy for women in economics.
Dr. Nancy South died on February 23rd, 2019. Everyone who knew Nancy was deeply affected by her passing. The Dr. Nancy Margaret South Memorial Award was created to honour her life and her dedication to teaching. Each year, one or more awards will be given to women students entering their third or fourth year in the Department of Economics, who have completed at least one co-op term.
