The University of Victoria and the Iranian Students Association join Canada in mourning the loss of the passengers and crew who perished aboard Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in Tehran on January 8, 2020. First-year Gustavson School of Business student Roja Omidbakhsh was among those who died in the tragedy. Roja is remembered by those around her for her kind personality and enthusiasm to learn.
To honour those who were lost, the University of Victoria is establishing the Iranian Student Memorial Scholarship. This fund will provide awards annually to Iranian and Iranian-Canadian undergraduate and graduate students studying at UVic. The University is pleased to support the Iranian Students Association and the greater community in their efforts to fundraise in tribute to the victims by providing up to $25,000 in matching funds.
By supporting the Iranian Student Memorial Scholarship we can continue the legacy of all of the remarkable lives lost and ensure their names are not forgotten.
