Alumni Guest Speaker Series
The 2024 United States Presidential Election: Prospects for the US and Beyond Webinar

From the assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump and his controversial selection of JD Vance as his Republican running mate, to the Democrats’ replacement of a Joe Biden/Kamala Harris ticket with one featuring Vice President Harris and Tim Walz, summer 2024 brought dizzying flux to the presidential election campaign.
This talk will explore some of the US election’s key underlying political and historical dynamics, such as the power of populism and the peculiarities of the electoral-college voting system. Considering the potential implications on global affairs, we will ask what this election’s outcomes might mean for various conflict zones and other challenges such as economic instability and climate change.
All alumni and community members are invited to join us for this timely and thought-provoking discussion.
