Alumni Guest Speaker Series

Brace Yourself: Understanding BC’s Earthquake Hazards for Better Preparedness Webinar

A landscape scenery of rocks, trees, and foggy mist in the foreground.

Future earthquakes are inevitable in southwestern BC due to our location on the Cascadia subduction zone. Reducing damage and loss of life in future earthquakes depends partly on gaining a strong understanding of their sources. Join us on October 17, International ShakeOut Day, for a timely Alumni Guest Speaker Series session.

Dr. Lucinda Leonard, PhD '06, an Assistant Professor in the UVic School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, will present her latest research on earthquake sources in our region. Her talk will highlight newly discovered active faults that cross Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, where attendees will have the chance to ask their own questions.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your earthquake preparedness and gain valuable insights into seismic risks in our region.
